Shailo Djekshenbaev (Kyrgyzstan) was born in Kyrgyzstan in 1947. He studied architecture at Frunze Polytechnic Institute, Kyrgyzstan, and directed animated films in Moscow. His achievements in architecture and animation were acknowledged by the State Awards and led to several prizes at international animation film festivals.
For the past two decades the artist has focused primarily on photography - his long-time passion since youth. One of the main themes in his work is changes that have occurred in the Kyrgyz society after the country's independence in 1991 - architectonical and environmental changes as well as the development of contemporary art in Kyrgyzstan. Shailo participates in many international art exhibitions both inside and outside Kyrgyzstan. He currently resides and works in Kyrgyzstan.
